1. My carpet is old and canyon-worn. Is it worth cleaning, or should I just replace it?

We use low-moisture extraction, do extra dry passes, and bring air movers when a room is shaded or closed in. Opening windows on a dry afternoon and running fans helps. In winter, expect to keep foot traffic light for a while after we leave.

3. What do you see go wrong with carpet most often in Topanga homes?

   A few things. Raw soil and DG tracked in from gravel and dirt drives, which is abrasive and grinds into the pile at entries. Oak leaf tannin and canyon clay, which stain brown and need the right treatment rather than more scrubbing. Wood-stove soot, which settles as a gray film across a whole room and shows worst on light carpet near the hearth. Add pet and livestock traffic and you get heavy soil in bedrooms and along hallways.

4. Can you get out here same day, and how far ahead should I book?
